The White Mountains viewed from Mt. Osceola
The Four Thousand Footer Club was formed by the Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC) in 1957. This club, which is really an achievement award, was formed to encourage hikers to explore the lesser known peaks of the White Mountains in New Hampshire (e.g., Owl’s Head, the Bonds, etc.). This also served to lighten the load on the more popular trails.
My wife Karen and I, as well as good friends Paul and Christine, traverse the mountains doing what is commonly referred to as “peak bagging” – the attempt to climb as many peaks as we can on a given excursion through the White Mountain backcountry.
Each year, we pursue some of the four thousand footers. It is the experience of a lifetime, and this blog chronicles our journey.
